Without the ignition system, your vehicle simply won’t start! You may need our Ignition Testing Service.
What is an ignition system in a car?
An ignition system generates a spark or heats an electrode to a high temperature, to ignite a fuel-air mixture in spark ignition internal combustion engines, oil-fired and gas-fired boilers, rocket engines etc
The purpose of your vehicles ignition system is to create a high voltage from your battery and send it to the spark plugs, igniting the fuel-air mixture in the engine’s combustion chambers.
Does your car have symptoms such as:
– Engine misfire
– Poor overall performance
– Stalling
– Reduced fuel economy/efficiency
– No power
These can be attributed to problems with components of the ignition system including:
Wear and tear
The battery, distributor cap, wires and spark plugs can get
Faulty Spark plugs
There are several spark plugs in your car (1 per cylinder) and luckily most times they don’t need to replaced all at once.
Having older spark plugs that misfire will lead to weak start-ups of your car/vehicle.
Battery Trouble
Battery terminals can become corroded or wear out over time and unfortunately, without your battery and its components being in good condition, you don’t have an ignition system!
Diagnosing the exact problem with the system can be difficult, however at R & L Automotive, we have the equipment to make finding the problem with your ignition system less time consuming and more cost effective for our customers.
During our test of your vehicles ignition system, we will look at the:
- Ignition coils
- Distributor cap
- Spark plugs
- Alternator
- Starter motor
